Dragging-and-dropping files on your phone

In the main window of Nokia PC Suite you can drag-and-drop music, images, video files and applications on your phone. When transferred on your phone, audio and video files are converted to mobile optimised format, which means that they can be played on your phone.

First select the desired conversion options for audio and video files, and in which phone folders you want to drag-and-drop files.

To define the settings for dragging-and-dropping files on your phone

  1. In the main window of Nokia PC Suite, click Settings > Settings…

  2. Go to the Audio Conversion tab, and select the desired automatic conversion option. The following conversion options are available:

  • Always ask: Select this option if you want Nokia PC Suite always to ask for confirmation before it converts music tracks to mobile optimised format.

  • Do not convert: Select this option if you do not want Nokia PC Suite to convert music tracks to mobile optimised format.

  • Convert automatically: Select this option if you want Nokia PC Suite to convert music tracks automatically to mobile optimised format.

Still on the Audio Conversion tab, select the desired conversion format (AAC or M4A) and bit rate. The conversion format depends on the phone model you are using. With M4A, the compression ratio is higher than with the AAC encoding. Thus you can save more music on your phone. Not all phone models, however, support the M4A conversion format. If you are uncertain about which format is supported by your phone model, it is recommended that you select the AAC format. Note that the bit rates available depend on the conversion format you select.

  1. Go to the Video Conversion tab, and select the desired automatic conversion option. The following conversion options are available:

  • Always ask: Select this option if you want Nokia PC Suite always to ask for confirmation before it converts video files to mobile optimised format.

  • Do not convert: Select this option if you do not want Nokia PC Suite to convert video files to mobile optimised format.

  • Convert automatically: Select this option if you want Nokia PC Suite to convert video files automatically to mobile optimised format.

Still on the Video Conversion tab, select the desired quality for the converted video files.

  1. Go to the phone tab and browse for the phone folders where you want to transfer files, music, videos and applications. The folders can be located in the phone memory, hard disk or a memory card depending on the phone model you are using. Also note that the transfer of files might be possible to the default folder only.

To drag-and-drop files on your phone

  1. Go to Windows Explorer or your PC’s desktop, and select the music, image or video files or applications (.JAR, .SIS, .SISX or .N-GAGE files) you want to transfer on your phone.

  2. Drag-and-drop the files onto the phone image in the main window of Nokia PC Suite.

Note:

When you connect your phone to the PC via USB cable, make sure you have the default mode, Nokia mode or PC Suite mode selected in your phone if you want to use Nokia PC Suite with your phone. Nokia PC Suite switches your phone automatically to the correct USB mode if needed and if supported by your phone model. See the user guide of your phone for more detailed information on the USB modes available.

When transferring music or video files, you need to confirm the conversion settings if you have selected the Always ask option in the Settings.

When transferring applications, you need to confirm the installation of the application file after you have drag-and-dropped the file onto the phone image.

Tip:

If you do not want to view the Message pane or the Calendar pane in the Nokia PC Suite main window, click Settings > Settings…, go to the phone tab, and clear the selection in the Show messages or Show calendar check box.
